Meta Refresh Tag
The meta refresh tag or meta redirect is a tool for reloading and redirecting web pages. Remember that the meta refresh tag is easy to use and easy to use poorly.
The meta tag belongs within the of your HTML document. When used to refresh the current page, the syntax looks like this:
- This is the HTML tag. It belongs in the
of your HTML document. You can learn more about the meta tag in the HTML tag library.http-equiv="refresh" - This attribute tells the browser that this meta tag is sending an HTTP command rather than a standard meta tag. Refresh is an actual HTTP header used by the web server. It tells the server that the page is going to be reloaded or sent somewhere else.
content="600" - This is the amount of time, in seconds, until the browser should reload the current page.
One of the most common uses of the reload version of the refresh tag is to reload a page that has dynamic content on it. For example: a stock ticker or weather map. Some people also use them to reload ads, but that can annoy your readers.
While being able to reload the current page is useful, it is not typically what people want from the meta refresh tag. To redirect to a new page, the syntax is nearly the same:
The only difference is in the content attribute.
content="2;url=http://webdesign.about.com/" - The number is the time, in seconds, until the page should be redirected. Then, separated by a semi-colon (;) you write the URL to the page to be loaded.
Meta refresh tags have some drawbacks:
Meta refresh redirects have been used by spammers to fool search engines. So search engines remove those sites from their database. If you use a lot of meta refresh tags to redirect pages, the search engines may decide your site is spam and delete it from their index. It’s better to use a 301 Server Redirect instead. If the redirect happens quickly (less than 2-3 seconds), readers with older browsers can’t hit the “Back” button. This is a usability problem. If the redirect happens quickly and goes to a non-existant page, your readers won’t be able to hit the “Back” button. This is a usability problem that will cause people to completely leave your site.Refreshing the current page can confuse people. If they didn’t request the reload, some people can get concerned about security. You can get more articles and information like this by subscribing to the site newsletter or RSS feed.

Free HTML Editors for Windows
I have evaluated over 130 HTML editors for Windows against over 40 different criteria relevant to professional web designers and developers. The following editors are the 10 best free HTML editors for Windows, both WYSIWYG and text editors, in order from best to worst.
Each editor below will have a score, percentage, and a link to a more detailed review. All reviews were completed between September and November 2010. And this list was compiled on November 7, 2009.
If you’re still not sure which editor to choose, then fill in my questionnaire: Web Design Software: Which One is Right for You?
See all the free web editor reviews.
Screen shot by J KyrninKomodo Edit is hands down the best free XML editor available. It includes a lot of great features for HTML and CSS development. Plus, if that isn't enough, you can get extensions for it to add on languages or other helpful features (like special characters). It's not the best HTML editor, but it's great for for the price, especially if you build in XML. I use Komodo Edit every day for my work in XML and I use it a lot for basic HTML editing as well. This is one editor I'd be lost without.
There are two versions of Komodo: Komodo Edit and Komodo IDE.
Version: 6.0.0
Score: 215 / 69%

Learn How to Change HTML Fonts the Right Way
Huh, since someone before me pointed at Cufon, I decided to hop in too. I don’t believe sIFR, Cufon, and any other replacement techniques are what would qualify as the “right way”. Most of them use a combination of JavaScript and/or Flash (either of which might be disabled or blocked at the users browser), or dynamically generated images (which is far from ideal, concerning many points from usability to bloating, as someone before me mentioned), and many of them even pose a problem to screen readers and such. Maybe I’m missing a method here, but if I am, I doubt it would provide a holy grail. Of course, I’m open to suggestions.
Personally, I’ve been tempted many times to use some form of replacement, but I tend to look at it as a kind of slippery slope – once you start things might get ugly (Of course, another factor is that some people like ugly, or at least – don’t mind it). Maybe I’m wrong, but this is just my personal opinion.

What HTML do you think is important for web pages?
Ha ha I had to laugh at Robert’s comment, very good.
I actually think your right Jennifer. I haven’t had time to read all the article but I think your bang on there. There is so many HTML tags, that are a bit pointless these days.
What about the
There are others, if your using forms as well you need to learn them, but most things in modern web design can be done with CSS.

HRA 296: Wrap-up
Are the weeks flying by faster than ever for you, or is it just me? Heck, it's not even the weeks anymore. It's the months and even the years. Can you believe 2010 is nearly over? And this is likely the last HRA newsletter for 2010, so we'll hit the 300th issue in early 2011!
I didn't receive much interest in a Houston SEO seminar for January, so I think I'll put that on hold for now. I'll be hanging with Corie (our daughter who now lives in Houston) during the holidays anyway, so I might as well wait to do a seminar later, when I've had a chance to start missing her again.
And yes, we're all heading to Florida again to visit 102-year-old Nana! We're also going to head all the way down to Key West this time, so that should be fun. Apparently, the hotel we're staying at has free smoothies and free wine, which should make everyone happy!
Catch you in 2 ? make that 3 ? weeks! ? Jill
